In 1979 after a brilliant career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he left as Regional Vice-President, Mr. Campanaro joined Liberty Life Insurance Company (1979-1985) where he was responsible for four divisions run as individual profit centers. He developed budgets and directed strategies for each division, including growth through acquisitions, product development and sales strategies. Dramatically reduced expenses and achieved record breaking earnings for the company. In 1985 Mr. Campanaro formed two legal reserve Life Insurance Companies as joint ventures between Merrill Lynch & Company and Equitable Life Assurance Company (now known as AXA) starting the company and building it to 160 employees doing business in all fifty states. When Merrill Lynch purchased 100% of the company from the Equitable and the officers, it was one of the fastest growing life insurance companies in the US with premiums in excess of $4.5 billion. Mr. Campanaro was instrumental in merging the three separate nationwide insurance companies with a $40 million budget, over $10 billion in premiums, and home offices in Seattle, New York and Princeton, and moving the combined home offices to a new location in Jacksonville, Florida. He orchestrated the transition of closing the old home offices, selecting new personnel, establishing procedures, development of a new $10 million computer system, accomplishing the merger ahead of schedule and under budget, with an increase in sales, which resulted in a significant increase in net income. All of the products designed and sold by Tandem Financial Group and its New York subsidiary, Royal Tandem of New York were designed by Tandem personnel and marketed through Merrill Lynch’s distribution network of 450 brokerage offices.
